Hypnopompic February 12, 2008

Last week one of the “words of the day” was hypnopompic, which is defined as “pertaining to the semiconscious state before waking.” I am still trying to work it into conversations so I can make this word mine.

But I did think this sign from engrish has kind of a dreamlike quality to it. It kind of almost seems to make a sort of sense in a way, but then, maybe not.

As a Wodehouse fan, I can’t help wondering about the third word ~ if “the p is silent, as in phthisis, psychic, and ptarmigan.”

Miss Dog Lover and Mr Music are studying George Washington. They hear lots of political discussions as Devastatingly Handsome is a political buff. Mr Music is applying what he’s heard to George. Today he announced, “George Washington was a flip-flopper.”

I asked why and he said, “Well, first he fought for the Redcoats, then he fought against them.”

He has a point there.

In (mostly) unrelated news, we are rejoicing here at God’s apparent provision for Miss Language’s college. We got the word today that she is an NMSQT finalist. Although the wisdom she is obtaining is the true prize, it is a joy to see her faithful studies crowned in this way.
