They Don’t Know Anything February 4, 2008

Our list had: the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (the video place didn’t have it), Murder on the Orient Express (not at our store), and the old Around the World in 80 Days (also not on the shelves). So we wandered aimlessly around the store, looking for something that looked clean and low-intensity. I ended up choosing this because it was old Disney and had Dick VanDyke in it, so I figured it had to be clean even though I knew nothing about it.
It turns out there was a reason I never heard of it. It has a majorly thin story, bad acting, nowhere near enough silliness by VanDyke, and is overly predictable. It was almost bad enough to be really good just by virtue of its badness, but not quite bad enough for that.
There was one quote in it, though, that I expect will become a standard part of everyday expression around here. I share it with you so you will not have to watch the whole movie just for this one line: “They don’t know anything about anything except the things they know something about. You know?”
And there were no complaints from Mr Music and Miss Dog Lover, who found the whole show hysterical. But they don’t know anything about anything yet.
