Miss Dog Lover has been taking notes during sermons, a great thing to improve her focus, as she is a visual learner. So, while all the Back-to-School things were out (stationery heaven, in my never ever humble opinion), Devastatingly Handsome got her a snazzy holographic pink composition book (he banned spiral binding, as ripping pages out during worship is beyond his threshold for both Noise and Mess).

Sunday was the inaugural use of the new notebook. Miss Dog Lover was delighted with the sparkle and general newness. I had failed to think about the little forms inside the cover. Miss Dog Lover believes in Doing Things Right, so, naturally, before she could start taking notes, she felt obliged to fill out all the little blanks.

forms must be completed

Now, some of these things are not designed with homeschoolers in mind. We managed to convince her she could leave the 8 period schedule blank, and that it would be O.K. for her to write “N/A” in the space for e-mail. But the real stumper was the next line. How do you explain to a kid who has always been homeschooled what a ‘Homeroom’ is? And especially when you can’t stop laughing at how appropriate it would be for a junior high to call it ‘homedoom,’ anyhow.

I am very, very grateful Miss Dog Lover does not have to deal with a homedoom.
