This Is Just to Say

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

 

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast

 

Forgive me

they were delicious

so sweet

and so cold

I have let

the snake

out of

his cage

 

and probably

you had him

in there

for a reason

 

Forgive me

it was hysterical

to see

Aunt Ethel scream

I have not

fixed dinner

for you

this evening

 

again

and probably

the icebox

is empty

there are only

93 pages left

in the book

I crashed the car

while eating a plum

trying to do a U-turn

(I’ve always wanted to do that)

 

the car isn’t too bad

just the steering wheel is off

and all four tires are flat

I hope the repair won’t cost too much

 

Forgive me

but it was great fun

perhaps you’ll let me

have a motorcycle??
