This Is Just to Say

~William Carlos Williams

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast

Forgive me

they were delicious

so sweet

and so cold

This Is Just to Say

~ Miss Language Carlos Language

I have let

the snake

out of

his cage

and probably

you had him

in there

for a reason

Forgive me

it was hysterical

to see

Aunt Ethel scream

This Is Just to Say

~ Mrs Carpe Carlos Bananas

I have not

fixed dinner

for you

this evening

again

and probably

the icebox

is empty

Forgive me

there are only

93 pages left

in the book

This Is Just to Say

~ Miss Dog Lover Carlos DoggieGirl

I have not

done school

at all

today

I know you

want me

to learn

stuff

Forgive me

I was busy

writing

this poem

This Is Just to Say

~ Mr Music Carlos Cacaphony

Mommy

I’m not doing

a poem

today

This Is Just to Say

~Miss Dance Carlos Dance

I crashed the car

while eating a plum

trying to do a U-turn

(I’ve always wanted to do that)

the car isn’t too bad

just the steering wheel is off

and all four tires are flat

I hope the repair won’t cost too much

Forgive me

but it was great fun

perhaps you’ll let me

have a motorcycle??

Not Just the Tortoises

Devastatingly Handsome took this photo at the zoo the other day:

beware of hot turtles

Today’s report here is we just got in from the pool and if I had my druthers, it would be sno-cones for dinner, but since someone has to be the responsible Mom-type around here, it will be Chloe sandwiches, cucumber salad, and steamed green beans. Chloes are sourdough bread with mozzarella cheese, fresh basil leaves, and thinly sliced tomatoes, grilled. Yum on a hot day, probably even tortoises would like one.

Today was one of those Sundays that started with a bad attitude on my part. Miss Dog Lover and Mr Music both had the orthodontist attach various instruments of torture in their mouths on Friday and are not happy campers. They cannot yet eat anything other than mush and don’t talk right. They need lots of attention keeping things clean and cared for. They need lots of loving on and today I was tired of it. When we got in the car I thought, “I sure hope the sermon is not on love and service or anything like that.” One of those thoughts that immediately as I thought it I knew, “Oh boy my goose is cooked.”

I guess I was hoping to eliminate talk about love and service for awhile...

Well, of couse, we did not even get as far as the sermon before the flames hit the goose. The opening prayer included (*smack*) a prayer that “love would grow and service expand in our congregation.” Of course God is kind to me, so after the *smack* visitors came who actually made me want to reach out, and the agonies of the mouth seem greatly lessened today.  I guess that love and service stuff is OK, after all.  :)

Overheated?

I realized I may have overheated on our day at the zoo after we got home, made dinner, put away the picnic things, hats, sunscreen, etc., and I realized I was singing the chorus of the Newsboys’ Your Love is Better than Life on a loop with one substitution: I was singing Your love is better than ice.  Probably not ready for the Trinity Hymnal, but from the heart.

ice is amazing stuff in the Creation

Old Old Old

Last night’s behavior proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that I am old old old. I was having a bluh day so asked Devastatingly Handsome to take me out for some excitement after the kids went to bed. He took me to the grocery store. Where I bought yogurt for tomorrow’s lunch and we debated the pros and cons of “fruit on the bottom” or “blended.” (Everyone but Miss Dog Lover ended up with “fruit on the bottom.” She likes strawberry-banana which only came in blended. Yes, it was that exciting.) Then we went over to produce and debated whether to buy organic or regular carrots. We settled on organic but then had to choose a size. We decided to go with the 5 pound bag but since fridge space is at a premium around here the next few days I decided that better wait till Monday, so we didn’t buy any.

Yogurt and carrots for excitement? How much lower can I expect the excitement threshold to drop as I age? At this rate, getting a poppyseed stuck in my dentures will be the high point of life for months on end.

Helpful Warning

I returned home from Camp Poison Ivy with not only a lot of dirty laundry, but also a box of ginormous ziplocs that the Craft Lady thinks I will be able to use (maybe to hold laundry.) They are BIG BAGS ~ BOLSAS GRANDES ~ GRANDS SACS ~ XX Large ~ XX Grandes ~ TTG, going for an international flair. Miss Language photographed one and included her lovely foot for scale.

bag not kept away from child

She also photographed my favorite part and even circled it in red (talented, what?)

do not even think about using it in your microwave.

I mean, I expected the warnings about keeping away from children but… “Not recommended for use in microwave”? They gotta be kidding. I never saw a microwave this thing could fit into, and I think most microwaves could easily be stored in a TTG French Ziploc bag, merci beaucoups for the advice.

July 25th

Today is Christmas in July at our house. We will be baking cookies, carolling to shut-ins, having a red-and-green dinner, and watching a Christmas movie, probably The Bishop’s Wife. And we are (somewhat) decorated ~ centerpiece on the table, wooden light-up tree in the kitchen, small tree in the living room for all to decorate throughout the day as they see fit, and huge fake poinsettia in the schoolroom. Of course the Christmas CDs are playing. And I get to wear the snowman shirt I made a few years ago that is far too lightweight to wear anytime around real Christmas here (the what-was-I-thinking project).

hot summer time

Even the weather is cooperating. Here we are in the middle of the Dog Days of Summer but yesterday a cold front blew through so that if these are Dog Days they must be Siberian Huskies.

Merry Christmas, Blog Friends! Remember God’s coming to tabernacle with us.

Whaddya Think?

Today at lunch I instructed Mr Music to find the tomato keeper for what was left after sandwiches. As he rooted around in the plastics cupboard, we discussed what is a hemisphere, anyway? However, despite knowing what a hemisphere is, he could not find the tomato keeper so we called in Miss Language, who is responsible for Cabinet Organization.

As she searched, she was mumbling, “Bad tomato keeper. You are not glorifying God by doing your appointed task.”*

the errant item, now located

So, the question… are tomato keepers (or other inanimate objects) fallen and capable of sin? When I pressed the issue with Miss Language, she said maybe she was at fault for failure to adequately organize the unruly plastics.

* disclaimer: no quotes in this entry are exact. I was more interested in getting lunch than in writing down exact words.

typical tree at Camp PI

Yes! If you recognize this, you are ahead of the maintenance staff at the camp we just returned from (we have renamed it Camp Poison Ivy, btw) who apparently do not recognize the stuff, which is as prolific there as dandelions in my yard. When it is pointed out to them, what do they do to eradicate it? Weed Whack it ~ spraying noxious shards far and wide. Ack.

And, is it just me, or does anyone else take one look at this and go, “Tower of Babel?” I won’t be surprised if there is a great scattering of people and many new courses to be added to Rosetta Stone’s offerings.

Rest Easy

My blog just passed a screening for “bad words” so it is now rated G. I am adding the Official Rating Notice here. It came with a “Free Online Dating” thing I removed, somehow it seemed not to not go with a G-rated blog.  :)
