Favorite Words June 29, 2007

It seems many people have words they like saying, just like Buddy the Elf likes ‘Francisco, that’s fun to say…’

Devastatingly Handsome says he likes saying ‘Shanandoah.’ I told him the word is ‘Shenandoah.’ He says, “Depends how you pronounce it.” I guess he has a point there.

My personal favorite has been ‘defenestrate’ for many many years now. Too bad it is not more generally useful.

Miss Language does not know off the top of her head and does not want to tell me anything inaccurate. She is back to say she used to like ‘mystic.’

Miss Dance has three favorites: Plump, Bub, and Unique. She is threatening to name her children these. Poor Plump. Poor Bub. Poor Unique.

Miss Dog Lover is contributing “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”  (although I do not remember her ever using that word before this contribution).

Mr Music is looking blank. Seems he thinks there ought to be a right answer to this one. I suspect his favorite is “Come to eat.”

I like actually. Actually, I use it much too often.
Marina just made me scroll through the last 5 or 6 entries that she missed because I looked at your blog when she wasn’t nearby. She pointed out that people actually thought that it rained cats and dogs because if it rained hard enough, stray dog and cat bodies washed down the streets. Especially if a disease had swept through. Yuck. Why does she know these things? I’m taking away her idiom and word history books.
Peace and Laughter,actually,
Cristina

Actually, Sierra’s favorite word is “flower.” Chase likes “though.” Marina likes “irascible” and “ratiocination.”

Peace and Laughter again,
