Cats, Dogs, Fish, Frogs, and Fat Goats June 26, 2007

Miss Dog Lover does not like idioms. She has been known to say she just wished people would say what they mean. Since we frequently provide “translation” for idioms she encounters, we are aware of them.

I am looking at this list and finding some fun new ones. Don’t you love ”about as useful as a chocolate teapot“?

lovely but not useful

I also remember back to my high school French class. Great French idioms were, if I remember right, “poissons and grenouilles” (frogs and fish) that fall in a heavy rain instead of American cats and dogs ~~ and instead of “getting away with murder”, you “make a big goat.” I’m with the French on these… the goat sounds less violent than murder and the frogs and fish make more sense than cats and dogs…
