The Riot Act May 23, 2007

The previous post reminded me of the Most Famous Reading of the Riot Act ever in our family.

what is the number for 911, anyway?

This happened many moons ago when Miss Dance, Mr Gingersnap, and Miss Dog Lover were all 3 or 4 years old. I came in the kitchen to find Miss Dance talking on the phone. This was a no-no. I took the phone from her and was surprised to find it was the good people at 9-1-1. She had called. They were concerned that maybe there was a problem.  I assured them there was no problem. They told me when they asked Miss Dance to put on an adult she told them, in her most la-di-da voice, she was an adult. Then she told them there was no adult in the house. They were still concerned that maybe there was a problem. I had a hard time explaining that the phone call was the only problem.

So, when Devastatingly Handsome got home (and was finished laughing in private) he lined them up on the couch for the reading of The Riot Act. He was stern and boring, very parental. He ended with a firm, “Any questions?” delivered in the tone that meant you were endangering your life if you did not get the idea to stay off the phone and never ever call 9-1-1 unless it’s a true emergency from henceforth and forever.

Mr Gingersnap looked up and said, “Yep. What’s for snack?”
